The format above is the one Government of Alberta sets, and it is on the page before anything else, because the numbers are what you plan around. Every row carries the record it was read from and the date it was checked.

  • Thirty multiple choice questions, and 25 correct to pass, the same shape as every other Alberta knowledge test.
  • Class 4 covers a taxi, an ambulance or a bus seating fewer than 25 people including the driver, and it carries everything a Class 5 allows.
  • You need a full Class 5 licence and you have to be at least 18. Alberta does not say how long the Class 5 must have been held.
  • A completed driver medical report form is required for Class 4, and a registry agent checks your vision at the counter.
  • There is no road test. Alberta lists the road test step for Class 1, 2 and 3 only, so for Class 4 the knowledge test is the test.
  • Ride hailing work needs this licence too. The Alberta ride for hire services page says a Class 5 is not enough and asks for a police information check.
  • You can sit it once a day, and you pay for it every time.
  • An oral assisted test, where a registry agent employee reads the questions out loud, is offered for Class 4.
  • The air brake Q endorsement is a knowledge test of its own if the vehicle has air brakes.

  • 46 questions written for the Class 4 knowledge test, each with the authority it rests on
  • Free to sit, with no account and nothing held back until you pay
  • Every run free, with the whole bank open and no part held back

The real test is 30 questions. Nothing here is timed unless the real exam is timed, and nothing is held back except the answers the real exam holds back too.

One question from the bank, in full

The question, the answer marked, the reason it is the answer, and the authority it rests on. Nothing is held back on this page and nothing is held back in a run.

AlbertaRules of the road

Your paying passenger is belted in, and you are ready to pull your taxi away from the curb into moving traffic.

  1. Pull out briskly so following drivers have time to adjust
  2. Signal, check your mirror and over your shoulder, then wait for a gap you do not have to force
  3. Signal and move out because traffic must yield to a taxi leaving the curb
  4. Remain stopped until another driver waves you into the traffic lane

The answer is B

You must signal, check the mirror and blind spot over your shoulder, then wait for a safe gap before leaving the curb. This lets you find cyclists and vehicles beside the taxi and keeps moving traffic from braking or swerving to avoid you. A signal shows your intention, but it does not require another driver to yield.

Questions people ask about this test

Does the Alberta knowledge test end early?

It does, in both directions. Reach 25 correct answers and the kiosk stops there and passes you. Reach 6 wrong answers and it stops there and fails you. Either way you may never see all 30 questions.
