Who is responsible

DriveTest Canada is written and run by Vikas D., who is the person responsible for personal information on this site and answers every privacy question at avrdevelopers2017@gmail.com.

What stays in your browser

Your light or dark theme, your practice progress (the questions you got wrong, your last result on each run, how many questions you have answered on each subject, and what you last typed into a tool) and your consent choice are held in your own browser's storage. The site does not send them to a server and has no account to attach them to. They stay until you clear your browser data. Your practice progress can also be removed with the button under the table of what this browser keeps, and your consent choice can be changed with the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page.

What is measured

The site uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages help learners and where the site is confusing, so it can be improved and kept free. Google Analytics counts visits and pages. Clarity records how a page is used, such as scrolls and clicks, so a confusing layout can be found and fixed. A Clarity recording can show which answer was tapped on a page, but it is not tied to a name, an email address or an account, because the site collects none of those.

How consent works

Both tools and any advertising are governed by Google Consent Mode v2. On your first visit the analytics and advertising signals start as denied, before either tool loads. In that state Google Analytics sends only cookieless pings, with advertising data redacted, and Microsoft Clarity records an anonymised session without setting a cookie.

If you accept in the banner, Google Analytics sets its cookies and Clarity records the full session with its cookies, and advertising may use cookies as described below. If you decline, the denied state stays. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page.

Advertising

Advertising is how a free site like this one is funded. Advertising on this site is served by Google AdSense. Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a reader's prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or, in Canada, at youradchoices.ca. Google explains what it does with this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Advertising follows the same consent choice as the two measurement tools. Until you accept, the advertising signals stay denied, and the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page changes that choice for advertising as well.

What is kept, and for how long

What sits in your browser stays there until you clear it. Nothing from it is copied to a server by this site.

Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period the site owner sets in the Google Analytics settings, after which Google deletes it. Clarity data is kept for the period Microsoft sets for Clarity. Advertising cookies last for the periods Google and its partners set, and you can remove them at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.

Your privacy rights in Canada

Outside Quebec, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies. In Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector applies, as amended by Law 25. Under both, you can ask what personal information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw your consent.

The site itself holds no personal information on a server: there is no account, no form and no mailing list. The measurement and advertising data is held by Google and Microsoft. To ask about any of it, or to ask for access or a correction, write to Vikas D. at avrdevelopers2017@gmail.com and say what you are asking for. Vikas D. is the person responsible for personal information and will reply by email. You can withdraw consent yourself at any time with the Cookie settings link.

Children

The site is written for learner drivers, who can start between the ages of 14 and 16 depending on the province, as each province's test page shows with its source. The site has no account and collects no personal information itself, so there is nothing for a young reader to hand over. The consent choice works the same way for every reader.
