SGI learners test practice 2026: 72 free questions
For the real SGI learners test, 80% in each section to pass. The learner stage lasts 9 months, excluding interruptions such as non-renewal, refusal or suspension. The basic knowledge exam and sign exam are separate. You need 80 percent on each and rewrite only an exam you fail. This free practice hub has 72 questions with the answer, an explanation and a citation. Source: SGI, New drivers, checked 2026-09-15.
The number beside each subject is how many questions we have written on it for Saskatchewan. A subject appears here once there are enough of them to be worth sitting down with.
You approach an amber traffic light in Saskatoon and can stop safely before the crosswalk. What should you do?
Correct answer: Stop before the crosswalk
An amber signal calls for a stop before the crosswalk when stopping can be done safely. Continuing is for a driver already in the intersection or unable to stop safely.
A Saskatchewan road has no speed signs and is outside any posted town limit. What general speed limit applies?
Correct answer: 80 km/h
SGI gives 80 km/h as the default when no speed limit is posted. A driver must still travel slower when the road, weather or traffic makes that speed unsafe.
You follow a slow vehicle on a Saskatchewan two-way highway. The centre line nearest your lane is solid. What should you do?
Correct answer: Stay behind until a legal passing section
The Traffic Safety Act bars driving left of the centre where the solid line is on your side. A clear view does not turn a prohibited passing section into a legal one.
You need to stop on a rural Saskatchewan road after a mechanical problem. Where should you place the car if it can still move?
Correct answer: As far right as possible, out of the travel lane if safe
SGI directs drivers to move as far right as possible when stopping on a road. Getting clear of moving traffic reduces the chance of a second collision.
A Class 7 learner at a rural gathering has one drink and feels unaffected. What is the lawful choice about driving home?
Correct answer: Not drive while any alcohol is in their system
Learner and novice drivers in Saskatchewan are held to zero tolerance for alcohol, so any detectable amount brings a roadside licence suspension. Feeling alert or having a supervisor along does not change that.
A Saskatchewan Class 7 learner has practised for eight months and finished driver education. They want to take the Class 5 road test this week. What still has to happen?
Correct answer: Hold the learner licence until its nine-month period is complete
A Class 7 licence must be held for at least nine months before the road test, not counting interruptions such as a suspension. Driver education is also required, but finishing it early does not shorten the learner stage.
Police behind you activate their lights on a Saskatchewan street just before an intersection. Where should you stop?
Correct answer: As close to the right edge as possible before entering the intersection
SGI says to pull near the right edge and stop before the next intersection when police signal you. Stopping where cross traffic meets would create another hazard.
Every question here was written against the handbook and the legislation that SGI publishes, and every one carries the reason for its answer and the section it rests on.

All four figures are counted from the questions themselves when the site is built, rather than typed in by hand.
None of them is copied from another practice site, and none is generated from an unnamed source. If a question looks wrong to you, it may be wrong: say which one and what you think it should say, through the corrections route on the methodology page, and it gets checked against the source rather than argued about.
