The MPI knowledge test has no published numeric pass mark, and Manitoba Public Insurance publishes no question count. The listed fee is $12. Every row carries the record it was read from and the date it was checked.

  • The Class 5 test is taken in person on a computer and is not open book. Appointments can be paid for and scheduled online.
  • Most applicants must be 16. A learner may apply at 15.5 while enrolled in a Driver Z course that is in progress.
  • The test is offered in English, French, Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, Simplified Chinese, Cree, Croatian, Czech, Farsi, German (High), Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Khmer, Korean, Kurdish, Lao, Low German, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Saulteaux, Serbian, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. Audio is available in every offered language.
  • Bring original documents that establish birth date, full legal name, photograph, Manitoba residence, permanent address and entitlement to be in Canada. Manitoba residence needs 2 supporting documents. Applicants under 18 need parental consent.
  • A vision test is required before the learner licence is issued. The official page does not place it at the knowledge test appointment.
  • Wait at least 7 days after a failed GDL Class 5L knowledge test. Study the online Driver's Handbook.
  • An oral knowledge test is available, but it cannot be booked online.
  • The Gateway Service Centre in Winnipeg offers weekday walk-ins from 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. after the test has been purchased.
  • After a pass, the learner licence costs $20 plus a base driver premium of up to $45. The Class 5 road test costs $35, and a failed road test has a 14-day wait.
  • Driver Z is optional for most new drivers. Learner-stage drivers must have no drugs or alcohol in their system while driving.
