Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 written test

The Newfoundland learners test has no published numeric pass mark, and Motor Registration Division, Department of Digital Government and Service NL publishes no question count. Every row carries the record it was read from and the date it was checked.

• The pass mark is 85 percent. The official pages reviewed do not state a question count or time limit.
• The multiple-choice test covers rules of the road, safe driving practices and road-sign recognition.
• Take the test online in English through MyGovNL or in person. French and Ukrainian are available in person. Other languages need a Registrar-approved interpreter paid for by the applicant.
• Bring at least 2 original documents that verify full legal name, date of birth, legal presence in Canada and a photograph.
• A vision test is required. It happens during an in-person written-test visit, or at a later appointment after an online pass.
• Study the Driver's Handbook. Reading or writing help can be booked with the office in advance.
• After an online pass, attend an office to verify your identity and result, take the vision test and pay for the learner permit before it becomes valid.
• A passed written result is valid for 6 months. Approved driver education is recommended, not mandatory.
• A Class 5I learner needs a supervisor with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience. Applicants under 19 need parental or guardian consent.
• The Class 5I licence costs $60 for 2 years, or $26 for seniors. This is a licence fee, not a knowledge-test fee. The Class 5 or 6 road test costs $78, or $39 for seniors.
